1st October 2003 Windsurfing: Ynyslas Estuary Wind Direction: NE Wind Stength: 20-25Kts Surf / Sea State: Lumpy Air Temperature: Too flippin cold Sea Temperature: Not too bad in a 5:3 Weather: Cloud/pt sun Max Speed: Distance Covered: Having been windsurfing in hot climates since I can remember, the autumn chill of Borth caught me procrastinating as per... altogether now: "Ahhhhh!". Intended to get there half an hour before Al, but only beat him by 2 mins. As a result, he was rigged and changed as I was still trying to get the board unlocked of my daft little car... I NEED A VAN! The good thing was, Al went out on his 5.0 while I was faffing and came back recommending a 4.5 Took out my fave little wave board (which a certain poseur called 'big' - cheek!) and had a blast. Tide was still flooding (against wind) so lumpy on port tacks but LUVLY on starboards. No gybes today, but SO CLOSE as ever. After fluffing one gybe the board smacked down on my head and cracked the nose. Thank God I was wearing a helmet, or it would've been my head that lost. A bit gutted at that, but c'est la vie. A really good couple of hours, Al went to work, but as Dave & Sarah were coming out to play I decided to keep going and rigged up a 5.0 (wind was dropping), but even that wasn't enough. Could've gone bigger but decided to call it a day after a really good sesh. Had I made at least one gybe I'd have given it 5*... Took ages to try and tie the board back onto my car, and the wind slammed the door into my legs. I NEED A VAN!!!! Roll on the weekend! :-) |
